This 1963 Iso Rivolta IR 300 is one of 797 examples built between 1962 and 1970 and was refurbished under previous ownership in 2005. Work involved a repaint in dark gray, an interior re-trim in pumpkin-colored leather, and installation of a replacement 327ci V8 and Getrag five-speed manual transmission. The car rides on 15″ Borrani wire wheels and is further equipped with power steering, an independent front suspension, and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes with Wilwood front calipers and inboard Dunlop rear units. Inside, front bucket seats and a rear bench are accompanied by a four-band Blaupunkt AM/FM radio along with air conditioning and power windows. The engine is fitted with an Edelbrock carburetor, intake manifold, and cylinder heads as well as a stainless-steel exhaust system. This IR 300 was purchased by its current owner in 2024 and is now offered on dealer consignment in Connecticut with a clean New Hampshire title in the owner’s name.
The Rivolta was the brainchild of Iso chairman Renzo Rivolta, who tapped Giotto Bizzarrini to engineer the car and Giorgetto Giugiaro at Bertone to style it. This example is said to have been delivered from the factory in yellow and was refinished in its current shade of gray as part of the aforementioned 2005 refurbishment. Paint work to the front of the car was done in preparation for the sale. The fenders and quarter panels feature slatted vents, and further details include a hood scoop, a retractable antenna, a locking fuel-filler door, door-mounted side mirrors, and polished stainless-steel bumpers.
The 15″ Borrani wire wheels were reportedly installed in 2005. They are secured with three-eared knock-off hubs and are mounted with 205/65 Dunlop SP Sport 200 tires. The IR 300 features an independent front suspension with unequal-length control arms and a de Dion rear axle, and the car is equipped with power steering. Braking is handled by power-assisted four-wheel discs with Wilwood front calipers and inboard Dunlop rear units. Various suspension bushings were replaced under current ownership.
The cabin features bucket seats and a rear bench that were re-trimmed in pumpkin-colored leather along with a color-matched dash pad, parcel shelf, and door panels. Additional appointments include a push-button four-band Blaupunkt AM/FM radio, a wood dash panel, and black carpets. Work performed under current ownership involved rebuilding the shifter linkage, installing a replacement shift knob and leather boot, and repairing wiring for the horn, headlights, taillights, and power windows. The air conditioning system has been converted to utilize R134a refrigerant.
The three-spoke steering wheel features an Iso-branded center cap and fronts Veglia instrumentation including a 300-km/h speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a clock, and gauges for fuel level, oil temperature, oil pressure, amperage, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 48k kilometers (~30k miles), approximately 400 of which have been added under current ownership. The selling dealer states that total mileage is unknown.
The 327ci V8 was installed as part of the 2005 refurbishment. It is equipped with an AVS2 carburetor featuring an electric choke as well as a Torker intake manifold and Performer cylinder heads from Edelbrock, and further modifications include a high-torque starter, a finned magnesium oil sump, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. Work performed under current ownership included replacing exhaust components and repairing wiring for the oil pressure sending unit. The selling dealer notes that the starter occasionally fails to engage the flywheel.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement Getrag five-speed manual transmission.
