This 2006 E46 M3 started life as a California car, with the rare factory optioned Competition Package (ZCP). Included in this package are larger cross-drilled front brakes (13.6 inch rotors), a quicker steering rack, Alcantara steering wheel, M-Sport traction control button, forged BBS wheels, and some aluminum interior trim. Of the 26,000 of E46 M3’s produced, only 2410 were ordered with the Competition Package (only available from 2004-2006). Otherwise, the car came factory stock with it’s normally aspirated 333 horsepower Inline six-cylinder engine, and six speed manual transmission.

This particular M3 was modified by renowned BMW tuner Dinan, and is registered with Dinan via a serial number. Only 120 cars were fitted with the S3-R package in 2006. This package includes an intercooled supercharger system bumping horsepower up to 462 from its factory output of 333. The S3-R package also includes the following supporting modifications: engine management software, a larger aluminum radiator, larger capacity oil coolers, full Dinan exhaust, high flow throttle bodies, front and rear strut braces, full Dinan suspension (in conjunction with JRZ), and a short throw shifter. Dinan generally offers a 4/year 50,000 miles warranty on all of their parts, so it’s likely the warranty on this car has run out.

Car and Driver wrote an article on the S3-R package back in 2006. The article notes that this kit would have cost in excess of $20,000 at the time. They commented, “This is a fabulous car to drive, in every way, and our only regret is that the day we tested it, the ambient temperature was 100 degrees…the S3-R is exclusive, fast, and fulfilling.” High praise for a mostly all-inclusive modifications package!

We pulled the carfax on this vehicle, and it seems to have had some damage to the rear of the vehicle in 2014. It’s not clear from the photos if there is any residual damage, or visible repairs. Nonetheless, this is a super cool “modern classic” with highly regarded period modifications. We hope you like it as much as we do!
