The Porsche 968 Clubsport is a stripped out, lightweight version of the 968. It’s the last of the four cylinder, front engined, rear wheel drive Porsche’s, and there were less than 1900 club sports produced for worldwide markets. The front engined four cylinder lineage started with the 924 in 1976, which evolved into the 944 (which ended production in 1991). The 968 is quite a rare car, with only 12,000 produced worldwide across all trim levels, and only 2400 coupes available for US consumption. These cars all came with a 3.0 Liter four cylinder motor, producing 237 horsepower. This was one of the largest four cylinder motors ever produced at the time, and it is still Porsche’s most powerful naturally aspirated four cylinder motor.

Produced from 1993-1995 the 968 Club Sport was a lightened, more track focused version of the 968. It weighed in at around 220 pounds less than the standard 968, or around 2900 pounds. This was a result of less sound deadening, roll up windows (instead of electric), upgraded stereo, no steering wheel air bag, and optional A/C and sunroof. More weight savings came from the lightweight Recaro racing seats with manual controls, and no rear seats. The suspension was also dropped 20mm, with the optional M030 sport suspension available.
These cars are hard to find, and when you do find them they often have higher mileage. That’s what happens when a car is a blast to drive! They’re a very cool piece of 90’s Porsche history, and most definitely a modern classic.
